Learning Experience Survey Now Open
The Learning Experience Survey (LEX) is open until Monday 28 May to all coursework students enrolled for semester 1 to give feedback on all their units and teachers. This new University-approved evaluation tool replaces previous student surveys (such as SET, SEU and SEUT) as one, online survey which is available to students each semester via QUT Virtual.
Eligible students will be invited to complete the survey which will remain open for the next three weeks. To preview the survey questions, please refer to the following website: www.yourfeedback.qut.edu.au

QUT Nominees Announced for the Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor David Gardiner has recently confirmed the list of QUT nominees for the Carrick Awards for Australian University Teaching (CAAUT). In 2007, QUT will champion 24 nominations across the three different Carrick Award categories, including:
- Teaching Excellence(also encompassing the Prime Minister’s Award) - $25 000
- Programs that Enhance Learning - $25 000
- Citation Awards - $10 000
Please refer to the list of QUT nominees for an overview of the staff involved in each of the above categories.

Expanding QUT's Digital Collection: Library Commences Trials of New Databases
Each year, the Library trials databases which will be considered for inclusion in the digital collection. Database trials and evaluation are determined by the Library-Faculty Consultative Committee which comprises of a Dean’s representative from each faculty and library managers.
This year the Library is trialling nine databases, including the following three resources:
- Global Market Information Database (GMID): provides access to country statistics, market reports, company information, economic information, and industry information from over 200 countries. Data dates back as far as 1977.
- Times Digital Archive: enables users to access a full image of every page published by The Times (London) from 1785 – 1985. The text within the images is fully searchable at the article level and users can also search news articles, obituaries, advertising and classifieds.
- Evidence-Based Medicine (EMB) Guidelines: is a collection of primary care medical practice guidelines, evidence summaries, photographs, images and reviews.

Effective Teaching and Learning Conference 2007

1 & 2 November 2007
The 2007 iteration of the ETL Conference will be focusing on the theme of Preparing Students for Work in the Real World. This conference provides university academic staff with the opportunity to explore and engage their colleagues from across the disciplines with the policies, procedures and practices related to preparing students for work in the real world including:
- Workplace learning, practicum and field placements
- Community and service-based learning
- Simulated environments, both virtual and non-virtual
- Problem-based and case-based learning
- Transition to work programs
Staff from the three sponsoring organisations (QUT, Griffith, and the University of Queensland) and colleagues from regional Queensland universities are encouraged to participate in enriching the discussions around this theme.

ATN Evaluation and Assessment Conference 2007

The theme of the 2007 Australian Technology Network (ATN) Evaluation and Assessment Conference will be Assessment and Evaluation for Real World Learning.
The conference provides participants with the opportunity to explore ways to maximise real world learning through effective assessment and evaluation policies. Topics will include:

Assessing work-related learning

Discipline-based practices in assessing and evaluating work-related learning

Evaluating work-related learning outcomes and the impact at course and/or program level.

Reminder: Dial Caboolture Campus Using 5-Digit Phone Number Extensions
You are now able to telephone Caboolture campus using a 5-digit internal extension number. Please note:
- 5316 replaces 5433 prefix for Caboolture phone numbers
- Caboolture's extensions will be 5 digits – add 67 to the front of the last 3-digits of old Caboolture phone numbers.
- Dial all QUT's campuses using 5 digit internal extensions - no longer an STD call!
- 5316 will operate in tandem with 5433 for 2 years.
Remember to update all Caboolture's Phone Numbers programmed in:
- telephone handsets (5 digit extension)
- facsimile machines (5 digit extension)
- mobile phones (07 5316 7xxx)
