QUT cite|write

QUT has released the University’s new referencing, citation and academic writing guide, QUT cite|write. This publication has replaced the previous guide named “The Written Assignment”, which will no longer be available.

QUT cite|write is a multi-format resource consisting of:

  • Two print booklets, with an accompanying folder addressing referencing and citation standards (QUT cite) and academic writing standards (QUT write).
  • A supporting website  (www.citewrite.qut.edu.au) containing:
    • print-on-demand guides to citation
    • print-on-demand guides to academic writing

You can purchase a copy of QUT cite|write from any QUT Bookshop or you can print the QUT cite|write booklets from the website: QUT cite and QUT write.

As a welcome gift, all commencing students have been invited to collect a complimentary copy of QUT cite|write from Library Help Desks (while stocks last).

Important to note:  due to variations in the Harvard style, amendments have been made to the examples used in the QUT cite booklet since it was printed. These changes are available as stickers which can be used to update the booklet. Stickers can be collected from Library Help Desks and QUT Bookshops.

Making course materials available to print using Flexiprint

Flexiprint provides a web-based print on demand system which enables students to select printable material from QUT Blackboard and the Course Materials Database (CMD).  It allows students to create their own course pack and select from various payment and delivery options.

When adding teaching materials to Flexiprint via Blackboard and the CMD, the content will automatically be converted and made available for print.  To assist in making QUT Blackboard and CMD files print friendly, QUT Printing Services (QPS) provides the Create a PDF function on the QPS website. To use this service, go to the www.qps.qut.edu.au and in the Quicklinks select Create a PDF.

Once a document has been submitted to QUT Blackboard or activated on the CMD it will take approximately 24 hours to appear on Flexiprint.

Students can access Flexiprint from QUT Blackboard or the CMD by visiting the Library website.

For more detailed information about the benefits that Flexiprint offers staff and students go to www.flexiprint.qut.edu.au. Please direct all enquiries to QUT Printing Services: QPS Administration (M Block | Lv 5 521 | Gardens Point Campus | phone: 31384019 | feedback)

New library website

The redesign of the Library’s website is based on extensive usability testing and user feedback. As one of the most heavily visited websites in the University, the Library’s new site creates a user friendly environment that enables quick and easy navigation. The Library homepage is now divided into specific sections directing users to specialised searches.  The website caters for regular users while still providing structured support for those less familiar with its services and resources.

Please note: Any references to the Library's web-pages in teaching materials or other documentation should be checked as the links may have changed.

We welcome your comments and feedback about the new site, especially its layout and usability. If you have any difficulty locating information on the new site, please phone or visit the staff at the Library Help Desk.

To visit the Library website, go to: www.library.qut.edu.au

New eBook service

Due to a successful five-month trial access conducted in 2007, the Library will continue to make available the eBook collection.

The eBook Library is comprised of 60 000 titles across a broad range of academic publishers and subject areas.

The selection and acquisition of eBooks through this system are demand-driven, as they are not initially purchased by the Library, but access is provided via the library catalogue.

If a student or staff member wishes to read one of these titles, they may do so by requesting a short term loan on a “pay-per-use” basis (for either reading online or downloading to a computer). The Library pays the fee for the loan.

After four of these short term loans the eBook is automatically purchased on the fifth loan for the Library’s virtual collection, and is thereafter available to users on an ongoing basis.

To search for an eBook, please go to http://www.library.qut.edu.au/find/books.jsp
