QUT Login: the University’s new authentication interface

Accessing QUT web applications is now easier than ever with the release of the new authentication interface, QUT Login, last weekend (8-9 December).
Staff and students are now only required to login once during any given web session and can seamlessly navigate from one online application (e.g. QUT Virtual) to another (e.g. QUT Blackboard), without the need to re-authenticate.

At this stage, major online services such as QUT Virtual, StaffConnect, QUT Blackboard, Internet Access Service, QUT Access (Computer Accounts), QUT Corporate Reporting, AskQUT, QUT Wiki and Flexiprint operate using this functionality.

This functionality will also be extended to users who are not QUT staff and students, but who are associated to QUT through their involvement in collaborative projects, courses, and initiatives. In this respect, QUT Login is set to improve access to resources and enable greater cross-institutional collaboration with partner institutions.

Please direct all enquiries to the IT Helpdesk (phone: 3138 4000 | email: ithelpdesk@qut.edu.au).

Search and download TV shows to your desktop

A new online database (Informit TVNews) is now available and allows you to view news and current affairs programs from Australian free to air networks on your desktop.

TVNews provides an index and synopsis of all major news, current affairs and documentary programs that you can search or browse. The Informit interface enables users to search by subject or locate stories from known programs and dates, as well as viewing a video of the program. As part of the Informit service, TVNews is integrated and cross-searchable with full-text journal resources in the Library’s collection.

The database is continuously updated with a 24 - 48 hour turn around of most programs. The TVNews content started to build from the end of August, 2007 and will continue to grow over time, creating a searchable archive of Australian TV news.

To find out more about the Informit TVNews database visit:  www.library.qut.edu.au/db/5370f

Library service improvement: choose the most convenient branch from which to collect your holds

QUT staff and students now have more flexibility when requesting a hold (or inter-campus loan) of QUT library material. Where clients were previously required to pick-up materials from their home campus, a recent enhancement to the system enables the requested item to be delivered to the branch you nominate as your most convenient collection point. You will notified by email (and also optionally, by RSS feed) when your requested item is available for collection.

Steps to request a hold have been simplified. The process is more intuitive. Your "My Library Profile" login can also keep you informed of progress. For more information about placing a hold / requesting an inter-campus loan, please go to: www.library.qut.edu.au/cat/holds.jsp
